GS :: Albedo and Global Warming(Env & Ecology)

                                       Albedo and Global Warming

. The term ‘albedo’ is derived from the Latin for ‘whiteness’.
. Albedo is a measure of the reflectivity of a surface.
. The albedo effect when applied to the Earth is a measure of how much of the Sun's energy is  reflected back into space.
. If Albedo is high then reflectivity of the surface will also be high.
. Ice, especially with snow on top of it, has a high albedo: most sunlight hitting the surface bounces back towards space. Water is much more absorbent and less reflective.

Albedo and Global Warming :-

  • If Albedo is high then reflectivity of the surface will also be high means less Global Warming & on the other hand if albedo is decreasing means albedo is less then reflectivity will become less and in this way Global warming(increase in average temperature of the earth surface) will take place on Earth.
